Holy Family Ashaniwas belongs to the congregation of the Holy Family. It was founded by Blessed Mother Mariam Theresia in 1914. The New Congregation spread its roots far and wide, and has today around 2000 Nuns in over 200 houses (across the world). The congregation reached north India in 1964 and has been carrying out large number of social and charitable activities like orphanages, home for aged and disabled, jail ministry, vocational training

centers for poor girls in various parts of India, and also rendering services in the field of education, health care and women empowerment.

Knowing the felt need of this place, the nuns of Holy Family Congregation have undertaken a new project providing shelter, education and rehabilitation of the street girls in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, India. In 2001, sisters of Arunoday Province  started to take care of 5 children at Mahavir Enclave, providing them with food, shelter, health care, education, protection and rehabilitation.

Sister Lilly Chirayath is the Director of the Holy Family Ashaniwas. To respond to the needs of space and better infrastructure, we bought a land and constructed a building in Najafgarh, so girls can do higher education. The number of children in the orphanage has grown steadily. At present we have 44 girls in Najafgarh and 34 girls in Mahavir Enclave. There are altogether 76 girls today accommodated in two campuses - Mahavir Enclave and Najafgarh Holy Family Ashaniwas.

About our Children : Holy Family Asha Niwas is an orphanage for street girls in Delhi: little girls, who are abandoned and run away or children of commercial sex workers wandering in railway stations and streets, eating from dustbins and leftovers from travelers.  They are picked up by social workers and are referred to a safe and enriching shelter at Asha Niwas.

Holy Family Ashaniwas orphanage is registered in Delhi as a Charitable Organization (#S43701 of 2002). The organization is managed by Director, Sister Lilly Chirayath with her staff and administered by a Board of Governors. A certified accountant provides administrative, legal and auditing assistance. The revenues come from charitable contributions from generous individuals and the divine providence has not failed us so far.
